What gear do you use?
I currently have a Gibson Les Paul Classic Antique with a set of DiMarzio Breeds.

What audio software do you use?
I use Cakewalk's Guitar Tracks Pro to acquire audio and mix, and Adobe Audition to verify output levels and compress if needed. I am also familiar with DigiDesign ProTools, which I used extensively at AT&T.

What is media determinism?
Media determinism is the notion that the technologies of communication shape communication processes. McLuhan, Postman, Innis and others can be described as "media determinists". I sometimes use a bit of this perspective, but I largely see it as more dialectical, or give and take. But consider this: It's not what people watch on TV, Neil Postman said, it's that people watch TV in the first place that's worth studying....

What Are Your Interests?

Here you can read about things I do for fun in my "spare time".
    Audio and Guitar
  • I have played electric guitar since 1985, in styles variously described as "rock" or "hard rock."
  • I also enjoy digitally recording, editing and mixing audio.
World War II: The Pacific Campaign
  • I have always had an interest in the US/Japan aspects of WWII.
  • Here's a great site: Combined Fleet.
  • My grandfather served on the USS Santa Fe (CL-60), a Cleveland class light cruiser that had a pivotal role rescuing survivors from the burning Essex-class aircraft carrier USS Franklin (CV-13); these events are chronicled in S. Jackson's book "Lucky Lady."
    Media and Society
  • Well, naturally my research interests revolve around the topics I've studied at the graduate level.
  • Right now, this includes music, copyright, and online infringement; I also have interests in cultural analysis of technologies and artifacts.
