Essential Biology with Physiology, Campbell, Reece, and Simon, Benjamin Cummings, 2004
Course Overview:
This general biology course covers animal and plant cell and organelle structure and function, and also addresses cell growth and division. Additional topics include tissue structure, organ structure and function, and an introduction to genetics and the immune response. Lab exercises are designed to support the topics discussed. In the laboratory, general principles studied during the class sessions will be applied. Exercises cover a broad range of topics presented in a variety of ways, including group projects, simulations, internet searches, lab observations, measurements and analyses of methods used to obtain results.

Course requirements/grading:
Exams:A total of 3 exams will be given. Make-up exams will be not be given.
Labs:Attendance at all laboratory classes and all exams is mandatory. No make-up labs will be given. Lab reports are due one week after the lab is performed, at the beginning of class! Deductions will be made from late lab reports. No reports will be accepted over a week late. The lowest lab grade will be dropped
Presentations:Each student is responsible for finding a current environmental topic from newpapers, magazines, etc. A short (5 to 10 minute) presentation of the topic is required.
