Tips: (these tips are taken from Faulkner FACCTs’ help screen)
- Identify phrases with quotation marks, separate with comma. A phrase is entered using double quotation marks,
and only matches those words, which appear adjacent to each other. Separate multiple phrases or proper names with a comma.
For example: "IEEE 802.3", "communication standards"
- Use UPPER case to indicate exact match. Search terms in lowercase will match words in any case. Otherwise,
an exact case match is used. For example, next will find matches for Next, next, and NeXT, whereas a query for
NeXT will only match NeXT.
- Limit your search to document titles by beginning the search query with the "title:" operator.
The below search will return only documents where Microsoft appears in the title.
For example: title:Microsoft
- Use a require or reject operator (+,-) to refine searches. The below search will retrieve reports
about Cisco Systems routers. Use the minus operator to exclude a term from your search.
For example: "Cisco Systems", +router
- To retrieve a list of reports published in a particular month use the date: operator.
The below example will retrieve a list of reports published in April 2001. Enter the date in YYYYMMDD format.
For example: date:20010401
- If you do not get satisfactory results, do not hesitate to ASK A LIBRARIAN for assistance.
